Say “cheese”…

Photoshoot

If you’re anything like me, the thought of having your photo taken fills you with dread. I’m far happier behind the camera than in front of it (as my Instagram account proves!).

I’m never quite sure how to arrange my face so that I look comfortable, I usually manage to blink at just the wrong moment, and I generally cringe when I see any photos of me posted online.

So, why on earth did I spend several hours the other week having my photograph taken?

Well, as many of you who have started a business will know, at some point you have to show your face. My existing Twitter and Facebook profile pictures were old(ish) snaps taken by my husband, so it was time to get some professional photos taken.

The shoot took place at my house, so it felt nice and relaxed and – I hope – means everything looks nice and natural. It’s a busy family home and the kitchen is very much at the heart of that, so it can looked a bit “lived in” sometimes, but thankfully everyone remembered the house rules and washed their plates right after breakfast, which meant it was clean and tidy.

To minimise disruption for everyone (and interruptions involving my sons yelling “Muuuuuum!” every five minutes) I scheduled the shoot for a school day, which made life a lot easier for all of us. Even our cat, Edge, managed to keep himself to himself for most of the morning – a minor miracle, as usually no guest goes un-jumped on – and only decided to investigate the camera as we were finishing up.

After being so nervous I’m really please with how it all went. Richard Dyson, the photographer was lovely and did a great job of putting me at ease. In fact by the end of the session I was actually starting to enjoy myself! And I’m really pleased with the pictures, which will be appearing on my social media pages – and in some exciting new projects* – soon.
